The Short Version
I’m a working mum raising two wonderful, wildly active kids — a teenage son (14) and a tween daughter (12). We’re a vegetarian family living life at full speed, and somewhere between packed lunch boxes, IGCSE revision, weekend sports runs, and surviving the teenage years — I started HappyKids.fit.
Like many modern parents, I constantly found myself trying to balance healthy habits, screen time, school stress, activities, and everyday family life — while wondering if we were getting any of it right. So if I was going to research all of this anyway, I might as well share it.
Why I Started This Blog
Here’s the honest truth: I didn’t start this blog because I had everything figured out.
I started it because I had so many questions.
- How do I make sure my kids are actually getting enough protein without meat?
- How much screen time is too much — and what do I do when limits stop working?
- How do I help my son revise for IGCSEs without turning every evening into a battle?
- How do I keep my daughter active and confident without putting pressure on her?
- And — real talk — how do I do all of this while working full time?
I spent hours searching for answers. And I found a lot of generic advice that didn’t quite fit our family. So I started putting together the things that did work — the recipes, the resources, the honest parenting conversations — in one place.
That place became HappyKids.fit.
Our Family in a Nutshell
🧒 My son — 14, sporty, obsessed with football and Fortnite. Currently surviving his IGCSE years (we both are).
👧 My daughter — 12, fierce, athletic, and somehow always the most energetic person in any room.
🥦 The food situation — We’re vegetarian. Yes, the kids are healthy. Yes, they get enough protein. No, I will not stop finding creative new ways to cook tofu.
☕ Me — Working mum, perpetual researcher, firm believer that raising healthy kids doesn’t require perfection — just a little consistency and a decent lunchbox.
What You’ll Find on HappyKids.fit

A Note From Me to You
Parenting is the best and hardest thing I’ve ever done. Some days I absolutely nail it. Other days I’m Googling “how to get a 12-year-old to eat more iron” at midnight while a pile of laundry judges me from the corner.
This blog is for those days too.
If you’re here, you care about your kids. And that already makes you a great parent.
So pull up a chair, grab that coffee (or green smoothie if you’re feeling ambitious 😄), and let’s figure this out together.
