Vintage handcrafted open book art plaque by Ellen L. Watkins, featuring The Optimist Creed poem alongside an illustration of the Minnesota state bird, the loon.
Each Watkins piece was custom-designed with calligraphy, artwork, and documents preserved in a lacquer-finished “book” display. This one has gilded page edges, an attached black ribbon with dried botanicals, and a high-gloss resin coating for a luminous, sculptural look.
The left page features The Optimist Creed from Optimist International, while the right side showcases a hand-colored loon illustration and a note about the Minnesota State Bird (adopted in 1961). Signed on reverse: by “EW.”
